It was a chilly, wet morning. I was walking up to my dorm — late for class, carrying too much stuff — when I slipped. I hit the ground hard.
At first, I thought I just bruised something. But by the next day, I could barely walk. My knees were on fire, my back felt twisted, and I couldn’t make it down the hallway without holding the wall for support.
For three days, I limped around my dorm feeling helpless.
When I finally got to the doctor, I was told to “support my feet more” and was handed a pair of hard plastic insoles. I was so ready to feel better that I wore them right away.
But instead of helping, they made everything worse.
When “Support” Hurt More Than It Helped
I’ll be honest — I cried out of frustration. Every day my feet hurt more. The insoles dug into my arches, my toes felt cramped, and I came home exhausted just from standing.
